Bow Lake Kayaking

[2026 Update]: You can no longer bring your personal watercraft to paddle on Bow Lake, as it has been designated a Water Preservation Zone.

Bow Lake is a serene escape where paddlers can truly immerse themselves in untouched nature. With no rental services available, only those who bring their own canoe or kayak can experience the quiet, unspoiled waters. Here, the lake feels like a private sanctuary — the only sounds are your paddle slicing through the water, distant bird calls, and the occasional whisper of wind through the trees.

The lake itself is strikingly beautiful, a glacial mountain lake with crystal-clear water that mirrors the surrounding peaks and the Bow Glacier further upstream. Its length is about 1.5 kilometers, giving you plenty of space to explore, and the shoreline is dotted with small coves perfect for quiet pauses.

You can reach Bow Lake by car, which makes transporting a folding kayak especially convenient. These lightweight, packable boats slip easily into your vehicle and can be assembled right on the shore, so you don’t need a roof rack or large trailer. Before launching, remember to follow the Clean, Drain, Dry protocol to keep the lake pristine. Once on the water, the feeling of freedom is unmatched — fewer tourists, intimate stretches of turquoise water, and the chance to immerse yourself in the mountain scenery on your own terms.

Bow Lake also offers some surprises for paddlers: small inlets for exploring, occasional floating ice from the glacier, and wildlife sightings along the shore. Having your own kayak means you can linger in these special spots, take your time with photography, or simply enjoy the quiet, uninterrupted alpine atmosphere that larger lakes rarely allow.
