Self Certification Stand

While you can bring your own kayak to the lake, there are specific requirements. Parks Canada mandates that all watercraft and related gear—such as kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes—must be clean, drained, and dry before entering the water. This procedure helps prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS), which can harm the lake's delicate ecosystem.

A Self-Certification Permit is required each time you launch your watercraft in a new waterbody within the park. This permit attests that your equipment meets the Clean, Drain, Dry requirements.

Parks Canada watercraft inspection stations

Drying Time Requirements:

48 hours if your equipment was last used within Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, or Yukon.
30 days if your equipment was last used outside these regions.

If your gear does not meet these drying requirements, you must visit a Parks Canada inspection station before entering park waters.

Lake Louise Canoe Rental

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise operates the sole canoe rental service on the lake, situated on the western shore. This exclusive setup means that all visitors, regardless of accommodation, must rent from this single boathouse.

Operational Hours:

Opening Date: Typically opens on May 31, 2025.

Daily Hours: 8:30 AM – 8:00 PM (subject to change based on weather conditions).

Last Rental: The final canoe departs at 7:30 PM.

Rental Conditions:

Each canoe accommodates up to three adults or two adults and two small children (each under 55 lbs or 25 kg).
Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations are not accepted.
The boathouse may close temporarily or for the day due to inclement weather such as high winds, heavy rain, or snow.

Lake Louise Paddling Routes
